Summer School FAQ
-
Student registers with Village Virtual and completes this course request form. Please list all requested summer courses and indicate if they will be new learning or credit recovery.
-
All our courses are self-paced, that is, students may work through the material as quickly as they wish so long as all work is turned in by the course end date, including any applicable final exam. To ensure the very best learning experience, students should strive to turn in work as suggested by the course to-do list and gradebook. The learning platform automatically suggests optimal due dates, but students can work ahead of the pacing guide if they wish. Past-due assignments can always be submitted for full credit until the course end date. Students may also continue to retake failed quizzes until the course end date.
-
Yes, all Village Virtual courses are taught by a certified teacher. Students can email teachers from any page of any course within the learning platform. Students may also text or phone teachers or request virtual meetings. Students should regularly look for teacher feedback on their assignments in the learning platform (indicated by a talk bubble in the gradebook or in the Activity Stream) and announcements and emails.

Visit our course catalog for a complete listing of course options. (All core and many electives are offered during the summer in both new learning and credit recovery formats.)

The summer session begins on June 3, 2024. Students can, however, continue to enroll in courses past this date. Half-credit and credit recovery courses are completed in a six-week format and full-credit new learning courses are completed in eight weeks. If a student enters a course after June 3rd, the course may not extend the full six- or eight-week time frame. All courses (including final exams) for all students should be completed by the course end date present on the student’s enrollment confirmation email. Students are enrolled in courses once approval from the student’s school and payment are received. (Note: Homeschooled students do not require approval.)
-
Yes, we accept late enrollments. If school approval is required, be aware that counselors are not available after a certain date at the end of the spring semester. Students should speak with counselors and submit registration forms before the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Please note that some schools require a form be submitted to them in addition to the information you will share with Village Virtual for registration.
-
Full-credit new learning courses are 8 weeks long. These courses begin June 3rd and end on July 26th. Half-credit new learning or any credit recovery course is 6 weeks long. If you begin summer school on time, June 3rd, your end date will be July 12th. All coursework, including final exams, must be submitted by 11:59pm EST on your course end date. No course can be extended beyond July 26th.

Visit this page on our website to view course prices and make payments. Please note that courses must be paid in full before a student can be enrolled and begin a summer course. Delay in payment will result in a delayed start to the course.
-
Discuss credit recovery options with your school counselor before registering online. Your counselor should be able to tell you if you need a half-credit or full-credit recovery course. Additionally, your counselor can inform you of your school’s policy regarding how your grade will appear on your high school transcript.
-
Depending on your school’s final exam policies, your final exam may or may not be proctored. In the event that you need a proctor, there are two possibilities: (1) Your school may require you to take your final exam in person at your school with a member of their staff as a proctor. Or (2) your school may require you to use our online proctoring service, ProctorFree. ProctorFree allows students to take their final exams at home while being recorded via video and audio. There is a fee of $12/exam associated with this service, and students are responsible for this payment to ProctorFree.
-
Students are not required to log in at a certain time each day. They may work in their courses any time they are connected to the internet. A certified teacher is available to students for help and guidance via email, text, phone, or virtual meeting. Even though meeting with teachers is not required, students should contact their teachers often, check their email daily for messages from instructors or Student Support, and always read teacher feedback on assignments and tests. Students who have activities scheduled during the summer session that limit internet access should indicate such to their teachers and Student Support and have a clear plan for either working ahead or catching up. Summer school flies by and getting behind pace is the single greatest factor in students not experiencing success.

Village Virtual Student Support will send an enrollment confirmation to the parent, student, and approving school prior to the June 3rd start date. All enrollments for which payment has been received will be live by June 3, 2024. If you do not receive an email from support@villagevirtual.com prior to June 3rd and you have made payment, please check your junk folder. If you do not have anything in your inbox or junk folder and you have made payment for a June 3rd start date, please contact Student Support: support@villagevirtual.com or 423-521-2796. The enrollment confirmation email includes important information needed to access your course and log into your Village Virtual account.

Parents can log in as their student and see how their student is performing in each of their courses. Once logged into the student dashboard, you can view the student’s grades and the minutes spent on each course. The student dashboard also contains the teacher’s contact information and a brief course description. Additionally, parents will receive a progress report every Friday via email. Parents may also LAUNCH a student’s course and view the gradebook and activity logs in detail, if desired.

The answer to this question depends on a student’s start date. All work in all courses must be completed by Friday, July 26th. Students who begin their six-week half-credit or credit recovery courses on June 3rd may have some wiggle room for an extension if they do not complete by July 14th. Students who begin later in the session will have a different end date and may not have room to add extended time. Students in full-credit new learning courses cannot extend those enrollments. They are, by default, allotted the full time available in the summer session. No course (half-credit, credit recovery or full-credit new learning) can be extended beyond the end of the summer session on Friday, July 26th. Schools will need grades that following week and teachers will need time to grade work submitted at the end of the summer session.
-
Students who remain in summer courses for five or more days or who complete 15% of the course content will not be eligible for a refund. Students who decide to drop summer courses within the first five days and who do not complete 15% or more of the course can request a refund minus a $50 registration fee. The five-day period is calculated from the course start date.
